Sunday Gatherings
At Lewisham Unity, we do ‘church’ differently. Our congregation co-creates our programme of services which means we invite members of our congregation and visiting lay members to lead services. This means we offer a variety of styles of service and this may change week to week.
Below are descriptions of some of the types of services we currently offer. Please note that we offer hybrid services — you can join in person or online.
Cafe Connect: this is an informal service where we gather around the table to discuss and reflect on a particular theme while enjoying refreshments. These are typically 60-90 minutes and led by members and friends of the congregation who will bring readings, music, etc., and lightly guide the conversation.
Bi-monthly Music Service: Joel Xhaard, a member of our congregation, offers services centred on the use of sacred and world music to facilitate different aspects of our spiritual life. This includes working within a mult-faith, universal, and inclusive perspective sharing practices such as spiritual concentration and meditation, sound and break work, conversations and support of each other’s spiritual search and practices.
Bi-monthly Poetry Service: poet Jeff Hilson leads us through a series of poems on different themes to reflect and discuss. This is a secular service.
Celtic Wheel Services: led by Lindsay Stevens, an interfaith minister who guides us through the eight celtic festivals of the year to celebrate the equinoxes and solstices. This is lead as an online service but the Meeting House will be open.
We occasionally invite visiting service leaders who will have their own style, whether more traditional with hymns, readings, and a message, or more informal with interactive elements.
You can join our Zoom service using this link. The Zoom room will open 5 to 10 minutes before the official start time of 11:00. At the meeting house, the doors will open at 10:45 and we will stay open for tea and coffee after the service.
All welcome! Please email us if you have any questions about our Sunday gatherings.
